Aug 08, 2013 · To improve this I’d use a single throw four pole switch (they exist) to disconnect pins 1,2,3,6 although with gigabit all eight should be ideally interrupted. And debouncing would be nice, although it’d have to tolerate Ethernet’s 48V.
While not an on/off switch it would do the same thing: I imagine what you could do, is place the cat-5 into the switch and then switch to the other port when you need to turn it off. Note: while this looks like a RJ-11 it says it's a RJ-45 (Cat-5) switch. I would triple check to make sure.
